STORY: France's decathlon world record holder Kevin Mayer beat world champion Niklas Kaul and world silver medallist Maicel Uibo in the latest edition of the Ultimate Garden Clash on Sunday (June 7) where the trio competed simultaneously in three different countries.

The three athletes participated in a unique live 'triathlon', which included pole vault, shot put and a shuttle run, with Frenchman Mayer competing in Montpellier, German Kaul in Mainz and Estonia's Uibo in Florida.

The event was streamed live on World Athletics' social platforms and Mayer -- silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics -- won two of the three events to come out on top.

The challenge began with the trio attempting to clear four metres in the pole vault as many times as they could in 10 minutes and although Mayer was 25 seconds late to start, he won the event with 17 clearances to Uibo's 15 and Kaul's 14.

The shot put challenge required the athletes to clear 12 metres as often as possible in 10 minutes and Mayer showed no signs of tiring as he produced 28 throws while Kaul and Uibo finished with 22 and 20 respectively.

The final challenge was a five-minute shuttle run between cones placed 20 metres apart with Mayer and Uibo completing 26 circuits, while Kaul managed 27.

Mayer's tally of 71 points saw him 8 clear of Kaul, with Uibo a further 2 behind.

- Five, four, three, two, one. Here we are full screen with Kevin Mayer, Olympic silver behind Ashton Eaton in Rio. Looking good so far. By the way, if there are any attempts that go wrong, the athletes themselves have to reset the bar.

[INAUDIBLE] helping Niklas. We have his girlfriend, Mareike, [INAUDIBLE] on either side of the runway, as we watch Maicel Uibo. I think it was a bit of a breakthrough performance for Maicel with that great silver medal behind Niklas in-- I think it was September 18 in [INAUDIBLE]. He's a world junior champion, a world youth champion, although that was 2009.

This is Niklas Kaul, competing indoors. So inside three minutes to go. Maicel Uibo, that line is at 12 meters. He has thrown over 15. Two, one, and off they go. Goes around. These are big guys to be grinding it out over five minutes.

Halfway through, [INAUDIBLE] on Twitter, loving this competition. Kevin is on fire. Deployment in the Europeans to smash that world record. 9000-- what was it 9,128 is absolutely outrageous.

Minute to go. 1 minute with just seconds to go. He's pulling away a little bit from Michael Uibo into second place. But the win here, surely a superb number of throws over 12 meters.

KEVIN MAYER: Because I'm good at sprint. I'm not good at 1500. So I think that was just acceleration. And I was better at that. So I think this triathlon was good for me at the end.

MAICEL UIBO: It got a little in the pole vault in the end. My hand started slipping. And the shot put with the chalk, the chalk just ended up like caking up and not really spreading on the hand. So it was a little tricky. But I know it was going to be that way. But it was fun.

NIKLAS KAUL: Because I wasn't able to do that in the past three or four month. So it's really good to have these competitions back with the other guys.
